Question: What went well this week? Are there any things that didn't go well? If yes, what can you do to prevent that from happening next time or what can you do to better the result?
This week, I was able to find enough volunteers for my session (that happened on Thursday August 13th). But the session in general I felt like I wasn't successful. My session occurred at Kensington Library and roughly 10 participants showed up; 6 kids, 4 relatives. During the session, the flow of making the origami pieces wasn't as I expected. The children lost interest in making origami pretty quickly unlike the seniors from my first session. I believe that I should have done more entertaining activities but I did not plan activities that would keep the kids awake and motivated.

Moment
the Week: Describe the atmosphere of the origami session with the participants. Why do you think the noise level is where it was at and how does the photo to the left help demonstrate why it was the way it was? The atmosphere from today's session made it feel awkward and uneasy to teach origami to the kids. I believe that the kids didn't feel connected or interested in making the origami. I rushed the kids when they probably wanted to do something more fun instead of just making constant origami back to back. I maybe should have had an icebreaker or a break for the children. The photo demonstrates that the little boy on the left had become bored of making origami. His position sitting on the chair and placing his feet on the table shows that he is. If he was bored, then most likely the other kids would be bored as well which creates the awkward atmosphere. |
