During our meeting with Randy, he told us we couldn't run a potluck because we can't regulate what people bring in, and they did not want to go against the Good Food Principles that CCNH followed. Also, the message of multiculturalism in Canada isn't being effectively conveyed through the event activities, so we had to think about the purpose of hosting this event. This week, we were tasked to find a different activity to replace the potluck, however it has been really difficult because in the early planning stages, this project was mostly centered around the potluck. We believed a potluck would bring people in the community together, allow participation, initiate discussion and demonstrate and inspire acceptance for all cultures. Finding something that would have a greater impact and still be interesting for people to participate in has been challenging for us. Hopefully everything will go well, and we'll come up with a better activity soon.
What went well this week? Are there any things that didn't go well? If yes, what can you do to prevent that from happening next time or what can you do to better the result?
This week, we had a meeting with Randy to discuss the Good Food Principles that we need to apply to the potluck, and added that to our posters and sign up forms. We also added a QR code on our poster so peope who are interested in participating can have easier access to the online sign up form. Unfortunately, midway through the week, we received a shocking email from Randy, because dun dun dun, the event has to be drastically changed... Tune in next week to find out what happened! Please write a short, one paragraph reflection post on what you did this week. What went well this week? Are there any things that didn't go well? If yes, what can you do to prevent that from happening next time or what can you do to better the result?
This week, we met with Randy to discuss project details. We needed to reserve a space for this event, but this was difficult beause CCNH hosts a variety of programs throughout the day and week We had to ask several different people for permission to use the big room, and to coordinate an available timeslot, as we are collaborating with another youth project involving children from an out of school care program. Currently we are in the process of recruiting volunteers, and creating a poster to promote this event. |
