Our third week was very empty. The reason why we chose to use the word empty is because we had already finished our week one program plan and got it approved by Randy. The only real thing that we had to do was go to our site (Charles Dickens) and choose a space to use for our program. Randy also gave us the job of determining all the possible physical dangers that could affect the smoothness of our program. When we went this Friday to Charles Dickens, we decided to use the gym as our location for our program because it poses the least amount of physical dangers and with a wide space for the participants to move around in. The only problem that occurred this week was that Johnson got sick after our one on one meeting with Randy. That meant that he couldn't come with us to Charles Dickens, but myself and the volunteers managed to finish up the little task that Randy gave us. Overall we're very excited that our program starts next Wednesday and we hope to start it off well with everyone!
Self Reflection Post: What went well this week? Are there any things that didn't go well? If yes, what can you do to prevent that from happening next time or what can you do to better the result? The second week was a very progressive week for us. Our one on one meeting with Randy was quite the needed one. We found out that we were not going to be working with the desired amount of kids (We wanted roughly 18-20 children) We would be getting from 8-10 children max. That also comes to the next piece of information that Randy gave us; we'll be working with the older children. That was crucial information that prompt us to change more things into our 1st program plan. Like our amount of kids and the age groups, we now had to set up a meeting with our volunteers to inform them about the new changes. Our second meeting with our volunteers was very quick and brief. We all liked the idea of having a smaller group so the management would be less hectic for us, but we had to change the concepts of what we wanted the children to act out. Other things that we also discussed was how we would all get to Charles Dickens and how we would present the idea of the scripts to the children as an 8 year old might not understand our instructions if we use words that are too "big," for their own vocabulary. Overall this week was a very important but relaxed week. Knowing all of this information a week ahead before our actual sessions start gives us that week to fully polish everything and making sure everything is absolutely set before our project kicks off! Bye! Moment of the Week:
WEEK 1
Kavin: Week one was quite hectic for myself.. Especially with having summer school in the afternoon, it made it very difficult for me to help Johnson with planning and completing the homework for Randy. During our first session with Randy, it was surprisingly quite short because Johnson took the initiative to finish up the homework that Randy had ask us to do for that week (Thanks!!) We talked about picking the dates and times for our sessions, and talked about what the staff would be doing during our program session. Our first meeting with our volunteers on Friday July 10th was also quite progressive. We discussed about the progress that we had so far since the first week the Summer Youth Projects started. We made a big change with our title of our project! (From Dramatic Drama to The Dramatic Effect) We also had to make changes to our program plan because we realized together that making the participants memorize a script that they might not even be interested in would be impossible in 2 sessions and have them present that script on the 3rd session. We changed it so that the participants would be allowed to create their own scripts based on the ideas that we give them as the overall theme. This week was definitely very hectic, but successful in getting the assignments in on time. I just hope to add a bit more of my participation into our project in the weeks to come! See ya next week! Johnson: This week went a little bit smoother in my opinion. All the planning went well because we changed the overall program planning sheet. The reason was we want to fit everything our volunteer had to say!! So a name change was a must, so say good bye to Dramatic Drama to The Dramatic Effect!! Also we had decided that giving them scripts was a bit hard. So we all decided to give them themes. Than the children can develop it to something they all like. The themes we all decided was something related to high school. Something that was a hit hard was we had to change 4 sessions to 3 sessions. Having us kicking down a subject that was fun, stage fighting. Thankfully the sessions was cut and we didn't have to do that. Because our group decided it could be a bit dangerous and scary for them. All because of one reason, their trust among each other wasn't as strong as Kavin and I. Well Kavin and I should have been asking each other to make sure our schedule would fit that amount of sessions we wanted in the first place. WEEK 2 Johnson: This week went well. All the planning we did was finalized. We finalized the age group that we are running the program with; eight year olds and older. Also Randy told us the location of where we are running our program; Charles Dickens Elementary School. I am really happy we got to know all of these two week in advance. We also talked about how many children we can have; 8-10 people. A little smaller than expected, I was hoping there was more people would take our program. Our program would happen on Wednesday twenty nine of June, fifth of August and the twelve of August. And good news everyone!!! The children who is into drama has to sign up!!! That means no one would be left out because everyone who picked like drama!!! Yes!!! We made a poster and it looked nice! The poster had all the information about our sessions on them. Week 2 definitely went really smooth. Hoping next week would go well!! |
