We have been informed that we could not carry out our plan of running a gardening event. Although the news was quite disappointing, we fully respect and understand the decision. To be very honest, we don't know if we're able to pull this off. Our other project, the Amazing Race, took up a lot of time, so we did not have much time left over to think this project over. However, we are certain that we want this project to become something we will be proud of - something we can look back at in the future and confidently say we enjoyed working on the project. We think that multiculturalism and diversity is wonderful and that educating people more about it would spark interest and acceptance, however the activity proposed to us, leading an insightful discussion and gathering stories about multiculturalism, did not seem to be a project we can fully commit to because we did not have the time, knowledge, or interest to complete it. As well, we thought participant's backgrounds could be sensitive and uncomfortable for some people to share.
Instead of continuing with Around the World, we've decided to run an event with the theme Gardening/Sustainability, one where participants can grow their own plant in newspaper planters. This project is much simpler, requires less work, and is an event that will not require lots of participants, unlike Around the World. The event will be next week, and because the deadline is approaching very quickly, an easier project is ideal. Since the Amazing Race, our other project, would be completed before this event, we will be reusing the materials from the race for this project, further showcasing the benefits of upcycling. We hope that the project will be approved and we will be able to work on this project from then on.
