For week 4, we were without our (only!) volunteer, which immediately set us off on the wrong foot for the lesson. We were forced to have one of us do what the volunteer would've done, and for the week, this task fell to Michael. We got a few new kids, and lost some old ones, but our number remained around the same. During the lesson itself, teaching wise there was a premonition of things to come when the kids wouldn't warmup with as much enthusiasm as the first session. Thankfully, that didn't affect us too much as no one turned out injured in the end, but if we had decided to do something higher impact, it could've all ended very badly. When we started teaching the choreo, even though the kids had not participated during the warmup, for the most, they learned about as well as we could've hoped, getting the lines section down. (around the first 30 seconds of the dance) We had problems with a bit of rowdiness, but it didn't get too bad, and we're on track to finish the choreo. I feel this session, despite the turnover of some of the kids, we did a bit better than last time, especially in terms of having the kids understand the words that were coming out of our mouths, and hopefully week five we get our volunteer back.
Michael's Reflection
I am back for my week 4 reflection. I believe this second session went out better then the first session since we did took in account of our mistakes that occurred in the first session. We were a lot more organized this time and the kids weren't as rowdy as they were compared to the first session. We were allowed the opportunity to run through the session a lot smoother because the kids were more calm but there was one problem that occurred during the session. We were missing our volunteer which immediately put a colossal amount of weight on both Garry and my shoulders. I had to deal with more task which should have been given to the volunteer. This extra task build in more stress for me and caused me to not think straight. In this session, we were giving new children and lost some of the old ones but our numbers still remained constant.. With this new group of children, they weren't as enthusiastic as the group we procure from the last session during the exercises. This didn't create such a huge impact on us because the reason for warm-ups to exist before dancing is to prevent possible injuries but luckily for us, no one got hurt. When we began teaching the choreography, most of them learned the introduction of the choreo pretty efficiently. It was better then I hoped for because we believed that the intro would take around two sessions to learn since they were pretty young. Even though we had some issues with the children's rowdiness, we still managed to finish the introduction. The mistakes that we took in account from last session really did help us in getting the kids understand what we were trying to say and teach. The children's comprehension became a lot better then last session which really did help the program run the way it was suppose to be. Hopefully, our only volunteer will come back and help us with the session again.
What is happening in this photograph and describe whether in this particular moment, the session was working out for you. In this photograph we have Michael teaching a section of the choreography to the kids. In this moment, the session was working out for us because all the participants were focused and paying attention to Michael. |
