For week 5, we were again without our volunteer but this time his absence affected our session a lot. Many problems occurred during this week, especially the session. For this session, one of the daycare groups came late therefore causing the session to delay by 5 minutes. Another problem was for some reason, the kids were a lot more rowdy and we didn't have much experience on how to deal with rowdy kids. Due to our lack of volunteer, more problems came up which could have easily been handled with if we had our volunteers. For example, if we had our volunteer, he could have dealt with the windows and the music. This would have allowed Garry and I to focus more on the program plan and teaching the kids. I felt that this session was probably our worst session because of how we couldn't adapt to the new time change. Another big thing was organization. I feel like disorganization is one of our biggest problems and we really need to find a solution to this. Putting asides all of these problems, I feel like this session didn't go out that terribly. There were some positive sides to this session. We are able to teach almost half of the choreography to the kids and I consider this as an accomplishment. I hope for next session, we get our volunteer back and are able to fix the disorganization problem.
Garry's Reflection
Week five was not our strongest week. We had a slew of glaring issues which affected our session greatly. The largest was probably miscommunication, as I came under the impression that Michael had changed the choreography that we'd come up with together and that he'd memorized the new one, thus I let him run the entire session. This didn't work out as he'd not had too much experience running a dance class and didn't make full use of things such as counts to help teach. Half of the kids also showed up late, and all of the kids did not pay as much attention as normal, but part of this was our fault, due to teaching them the relatively 'boring' part of the choreo where they formed lines, and trying to make sure they all got a section before playing music for it and moving on to the next. The kids' boredom also caused them to call for more breaks, causing even more constriction for us in regards to time. Overall, the session definitely could've gone better, much better, but we did manage to put the lines section behind us, so hopefully, for the last session, the more active moves and better organization will be enough to retain the kids' attention for the finish of our choreography.
