Self Reflection Post:
Please write a short, one paragraph reflection post on what you did this week. What went well this week? Are there any things that didn't go well? If yes, what can you do to prevent that from happening next time or what can you do to better the result?
At the start of this week, we had a meeting with Randy to discuss our project. Deciding upon a date and time for the event went well, because the event would mostly take place off-site and therefore wouldn't conflict with other programs happening at Cedar Cottage. Later this week, we made a poster to promote the event. The poster took a while to design and we finally decided to take a picture of a pathway in the neighbourhood since the race would be in the neighbourhood and the participants would be running on paths so the picture is very much related to the event. However, since it was summer and it had not rained in a while, the grass was dead and we wanted our poster to look inviting, so we had to edit the photo to make the grass green. This process was difficult, because the grass that was in the sun wouldn't turn a green that looks natural. However, the grass did cooperate at the end, so that saved us from throwing the laptop out of the window. Next time, if we need more promotional materials we will scout for better, more photogenic scenes or items that require less editing. Since we had to put sign up information on our poster, we also drafted an online Google Form and a sign up sheet to be placed at Cedar Cottage's front desk, so that contestants can sign up for the race. In addition, we started to promote the event to our friends, and we are trying to recruit volunteers for the event, which is going well.

Moment of the Week:
What is your group doing in this photo? Taking a picture to use on our poster to promote the event. Describe some of the highlights of the activity shown in the photograph. One highlight was attempting to picking out a scenic spot in Brewer's Park. Another highlight was when someone gave us a weird look because we were taking pictures of the ground so we had to pretend we were professional photographers who do this all the time and it's normal. What were some of the challenges before, during, or after in the task that's being carried out shown in the photograph? Before taking the picture, we had to walk there and it was really hot so that was difficult. During the task, Randy was crossing the street so we had to wait until he was done crossing so we could take the picture. Finding the right angle to make the ground look appealing and eye-catching on our poster was challenging. Afterwards, we had to walk back (it was still really hot) and edit the pictures by making the grass appear to be luscious and green because the grass was dead and dead grass posters are sad. |
