Week 4 was a great start to our project! Our program officially started last Wednesday July the 29th at Charles Dickens Elementary with the OOSC. All of our goals that we wanted our participants to achieve within that first session came about perfectly! Miho also told us that one of our participants who normally doesn't talk, actually talked quite a bit in Kavin's group! That itself was such an amazing thing to hear from her because what we wanted was for everyone to participate. Knowing that we managed to get a shy individual to start talking and participating with the group was incredibly special. Each group used that session to decide on what kind of script they wanted to perform. Group one decided to act out a story about spies and sports, while group 2 decided to act out a superhero script (Avengers Themed). Our participants had such amazing ideas, although we couldn't combine everything together because it would've taken us so much more time to create the scripts. There didn't seem to be any problems with that week because the participants followed our instructions without much trouble and the participants aren't behind with the script making. Our second session is coming up very soon and we hope to keep up the progression and hard work with the participants to finish their own scripts!
Moment of the Week:
Describe what is happening in this photograph: Kavin: At that time, me and Kevin were discussing with our group about what kind of concept our group wanted to write and act out. We were completely blown away at how quickly our group changed when it came to verbal communication within our group. It took took us a bit of time, but our group started shooting ideas down the table like a real meeting between writers! We really loved how they were able to give us so many ideas, but like what we said to them earlier. "We don't have the months and million dollar budget to create something that amazing." I'll have to be honest, but their creativity was amazing...too much for us to make within 3 sessions. |
